South Texas Sheriff Wants to Hire Military Veterans to Protect the Border

A record number of veterans coming back from Iraq and Afghanistan are coming back home without a job waiting for them, but one border sheriff says he knows how to use them.

The Webb County sheriff’s plan is to put veterans to work and secure the border at the same time. He has the ear of the federal government

These are 1,200 National Guard soldiers all along the southwest border. The federal government is paying for them to be here. The Webb County sheriff in Laredo has another idea.

“Hire a vet and secure our borders,” says Webb County Sheriff Martin Cuellar. “I’m always having soldiers coming in that served our country; they’re always looking for jobs.”
