(CNN) — A graphic video played at a hearing Monday to determine whether two California police officers should stand trial in the beating death of a homeless man showed them kicking and punching the mentally ill man as he lay on the ground — screaming in pain and begging for help.

The victim, Kelly Thomas, died five days after the beating on July 5.

Manuel Ramos, a 10-year veteran of the Fullerton, California, police department, is charged with second-degree murder and involuntary manslaughter, while Cpl. Jay Patrick Cicinelli faces charges of involuntary manslaughter and felony use of excessive force in the same case.

Both have pleaded not guilty.

I rememeber seeing this reported by a guy called William J Wagener on Youtube, haven’t seen any outcome untill now and i have to say 2nd degree charge – is that it?, the poor guy was drunk unarmed and outnumbered by well trained heavy built cops who were of course armed, he had no chance and as you can see he was on the ground getting beat by them.

BTW the dead guy’s father is an ex cop, and he’s p*ssed about it of course, so perhaps that’s why there is even a 2nd degree charge in the first place?

If this poor guy’s parent just happend to be your average people (not cops etc), woudl there even have been a trial in the first place?

That is what a police state looks like.
