Laredo, TX residents wake up to the sound of a car bomb

Several Laredoans woke up to the sound of a loud explosion early this morning. However, the explosion did not originate on our side of the border.
Unconfirmed reports indicate a bomb went off in a parking lot of a hotel in south Nuevo Laredo. There are also reports that several structures are under bomb threats, including educational institutions. However, the main target of the bomb threats seem to be aimed at entertainment businesses with alleged ties to cartel members.
These altercations come after a build-up of tension between rival cartels fight for control of drug smuggling territory. The Mexican army has yet to release an official statement, but a report is expected in the coming hours.
