Gore Vidal, the author, playwright, politician and commentator, has died in Los Angeles. Vidal died at his home in the Hollywood Hills on Tuesday evening of complications from pneumonia. Along with such contemporaries as Norman Mailer and Truman Capote, Vidal was among the last generation of US literary writers who were also genuine celebrity fixtures. Well I truly loved Gore. He told it like it was. He was equally against the right and left, Bush and Obama. He reminded me of myself. He lived his life independently of the dictates of others with a acerbic wit and poise.
I will always remember his entertaining the facts of 9/11 before most others would. He was very comfortable in acknowledging that the government, likely would allow 9/11 to happen or even made it happen. He was an early LIHOP vs MIHOP thinker. That he must be honored for.
Thanks Mr. Vidal for the many memories and willingness and ability to challenge the Establishment, even though you came from it.
