Hwy 82 Witchita Falls,TX…WTF? This is a Sheriff in a light armored tank with a gun turret pulling people over for speeding. Flashing red/blue lights and all. I would not have believed it if I hadn’t seen it with my own eyes. We are so screwed! — with Marianne Stebbins, witchita Falls, Freddy Crisp III, Erik Daniel Blair and Pamm Adams Skogen.

The Etowah County Sheriffs Office has acquired an armored vehicle that will be assigned to the Joint Special Operations Group for use in SWAT calls. The military-surplus vehicle is worth about $600,000 but it was acquired at no cost to the county. The only expense was the cost for transport to Etowah County from 29 Palms Marine base in California. It arrived in Etowah County on Tuesday and was driven down Alabama Highway 77 to the Etowah County Drug Enforcement Unit office where it will be stored.

Many drivers on Wednesday did a double take as a tan military armored vehicle cruised down Alabama Highway 77 through Rainbow City. The vehicle was acquired by the Etowah County Sheriff’s Office through the federal military surplus program. It arrived Tuesday from California.

Sheriff Todd Entrekin was at a meeting recently when he learned the vehicles were going to available through the surplus program. He immediately notified Rob Savage, commander of the Etowah County Drug Enforcement Unit.

Savage made a request for the vehicle and Etowah County was first on the list when they became available two weeks ago, Entrekin said.

The vehicle will be assigned to the Etowah County Special Operations Group, a tactical team comprised of the Etowah County Sheriff’s Office and the Gadsden police and fire departments. Savage also is commander of JSOG. The armored vehicle is worth about $600,000, but it was available at no cost to the county.

“The only cost to us was the transportation to get it here,” Entrekin said.

A trucking company brought the vehicle to Etowah County from 29 Palms U.S Marine Corps base in California.

Savage said the JSOG has wanted to acquire an armored vehicle for a few years and has had three incidents this year in which the vehicle would have been beneficial.

The armored vehicle has no weapons on board.

“It’s solely for officer safety,” Savage said. “It allows us to get our people in to the perimeter without danger to them.”

Entrekin said it also can be used to rescue an officer who might be injured during a SWAT operation.

“It can be for officer rescue, but we hope that never happens,” he said. “It might sit here all year long, but if it is used just once and it keeps our officers safer, it is worth it.”

Wrong. Zoom in with your browser and look at the tank’s front tire. It is either flat or has a broken axle. That thing isn’t pulling over anybody.

And don’t US armored cars like that have 8 wheels?

Sheesh. Anybody wanna buy a bridge?

Yes we know – Thanks – which is why we put the question mark in the title. Still – we ask… how far away are we from this being a reality? We have classified documents in our safe to prove that the military is being integrated into our highway systems…. old news – will publish again someday. search: Posse Comitatus!

Last i heard its a law that you have to wear seatbelts…but cops dont live by the law or the oath they take, which makes me think they are nothing more than egotistical douchebags. now here is a picture of a cop compensating for a little dick with a tank, must be microscopic

Seriously, you think that posting inflammatory headlines is ok as long as you include a question mark at the end?

    • Jack Blood says:

      1) The headline is NOT inflammatory in our humble opinion. 2) We were simply covering the story and asking questions because we are not totally sure what really happened there. 3) In my experience I found that we are not far off from this being a reality… try going through a checkpoint lately? DHS has them all over now with militarized police etc… This is a warning. 4) Sorry if you were Inflamed. Thanks for posting though.

  5. Ricochet says:

The county should look into the gasoline cost to run that thing…I bet it’s a major guzzler!!

They can’t run it all the time they don’t have the budget for that

I just wanted to add for those who might be skeptical of a story like this.

Take a close look at Northern Ireland!

I need not say any more, but i will,

In Northern Ireland police are given training by the Army and it has been this way for a very long time, they are ready to rock with MP5s and they of course have the full police state styled riot gear going on as well.

The police “vans” are armored Landrovers with cages on the windows etc, and these are not the fancy and fashionable kind of Landrovers you may be thinking about, these landrovers are big square ugly tank-like beasts.

It was also quite rare up until recently too see a “regular” type of police car, but even those are armored and the tint of the glass is a give away as too the extent of the armoring. Yes they have bullet proof glass on the “regular” cop cars!

Needless too say, when you want to clear a protest or something, there’s is nothing more intimidating than seeing a small army of all that rolling towards you.

So now you know a little bit about how the “police” rock out in Northern Ireland, it should NOT be such a stretch to see the same kinds of thing taking place in the land of the free home of the brave, and considering the amount of armed citizens all over the US shouldn’t it be at least plausible in your mind that they would use such heavy duty vehicles like this?

  7. Grymantyne says:

it’s not a tank, it’s an Armored Car, and an obsolete model at that. most peoples hunting rifles could do some hefty damage to that thing. it can’t go very fast, and when you are inside it with the hatches closed driving you are damn near blind. plus it can only go 300 miles on a tank of gas/diesel.

i’ve worked on an M1 Abrams they are maintenance intensive, so are these things, one little thing breaks from wear and tear and that thing is going nowhere and most tow trucks can’t haul it.

  8. Africa has been a major hub of drug trafficking and recently Namibian Police Force confiscated large amount of drugs from two foreign women. It’s generally conceived that men are more involved in drug supplies but now a days women are also found committing such crimes.
