Video of Dorner’s alleged weapons
Yesterday, the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department showed some of Dorner’s weapons to the media.
For a guy that was allegedly anti-gun, Dorner sure had a good selection of weapons, which an average Joe probably wouldn’t be able to afford.
The AR style or M4 style rifle costs between $1,000 to $1,500 plus the rail system. The suppressor can cost around $1,500 with the special tax.
The bolt action rifle is a Remington 700 or M700, which is the civilian equivalent of the Army’s M-24 sniper rifle and the Marines’ M-40 sniper rifle system.
The M700 rifle is typically not sold in stores with all those add-on’s. If this rifle really belonged to Dorner, he spent some serious money to upgrade it:
— Suppressor $1,500 including the special tax
— Scope/rail system $500 to $1,000 depending on the brand
— Detachable magazine system about $300
— The stock may be synthetic or fiberglass which is anywhere from $300-$800
— The rifle itself may be at least $500.
So you’re looking at a rifle that costs anywhere between $2,500 to $3,500 -that’s a whole month’s salary for a cop or a military officer… kind of expensive (unless he acquired them by some other means). Also, a guy that puts one of these rifles together really knows his stuff, which contradicts Mark Fuhrman’s claim that Dorner didn’t know anything about guns.
Also notice the M700 is missing the bolt knob (which would make it somewhat awkward to cycle a round). Dorner (again, if the rifle was really his) was probably in the middle of upgrading the knob with a Badger Ordnance-type tactical knob. This requires expert level machining skills.
