British activist saw Rachel Corrie die under Israeli bulldozer, court hears

A British witness told a court today about how he had watched an Israeli military bulldozer run over and kill the American activist Rachel Corrie while she was trying to stop Palestinians’ homes being demolished in Gaza.
Richard Purssell, who was also a volunteer activist in Rafah at the time, seven years ago, described the “shocking and dramatic event” in an Israeli court in Haifa on the first day of a civil suit brought by Corrie’s family against the Israeli state.
Twenty-three-year-old Corrie, from Olympia, Washington, in the US, went to Gaza for peace activism reasons at a time when there was intense conflict between the Israeli military and the Palestinians.
The Corrie family lawyer, Hussein Abu Hussein, said he would argue that her death was due either to gross negligence by the Israeli military or that it was intended. If the Israeli state were found responsible, the family would press for damages.

Intelligence chiefs feared the Nazis were plotting to destabilise Britain through infiltrating the Boy Scout and Girl Guide movement, previously secret documents revealed yesterday.
The fears were apparently well founded - Hitler Youth leaders had a warm meeting with the then-chief scout, Lord Baden-Powell, and invited him to meet the Fuhrer in Berlin.
Declassified files from the National Archive also reveal that seemingly innocent young Germans on cycling tours of Britain in 1937 and 1938 may have been Hitler Youth ’spyclists’ carrying out reconnaissance useful for a future invasion.

U.S.-Born al Qaeda Arrest News Incorrect

An “important Taliban militant” was arrested today in Pakistan. But that is where the confusion started.
Earlier it was reported by Pakistani media that intelligence agents had arrested Adam Gadahn, the American-born spokesman for al Qaeda, in an operation in the southern city of Karachi.
It was further reported by the Associated Press and Reuters that Gadahn had been arrested, sourcing security officials.
CBS News was told by sources in the Pakistan government that it was Gadahn, even after U.S. officials refused to confirm it was the California native for whom a $1 million reward has been posted.
Now, CBS News’ Farhan Bokhari in Islamabad writes that earlier reports the detained individual was Gadahn proved false. According to a Pakistan security official who spoke with CBS News on condition of anonymity, the arrested individual is in fact “a Taliban militant leader who is known as Abu Yahya.”
